3M EMI / RFI Absorbers

EMI absorbers work by converting near-field electromagnetic energy into heat through magnetic loss. Unlike metallic shields, which reflect and redirect energy, absorbers dissipate it — reducing resonance, re-radiation, and inter-component coupling.

At the board level, flexible absorber sheets are used to:

– Suppress noise from high-speed digital logic, clock lines, and switching regulators

– Reduce coupling between adjacent RF stages or mixed-signal zones

– Damp resonant cavities inside shielded enclosures

– Lower radiated emissions at the module or assembly level before system-level shielding is applied

The 3M absorber series available through ICC range from ultra-thin profiles for tight-tolerance stackups to thicker, high-permeability options targeting sub-1 GHz interference in complex, multi-frequency environments.
